5 reasons we’ll miss Taylor Swift on ‘The Voice’

Since Tuesday’s episode of The Voice was basically a recap, I’d like to take this post to talk a little Taylor Swift, otherwise known as T-Swift, Tay-Tay, T-Swizzle, or Tay. Here are five reasons we’ll be missing T-Swift for the remainder of season 7.
1. She’s not afraid to use her whole body to make a point.

2. She brought the cat demographic to The Voice, and she brought it hard.
It’s a known fact that cat ratings in the 5–20 age range went up dramatically when T-Swift was on the show.
Dog ratings stayed the same, because dogs are easy. But cats? They’re finicky, and they don’t change the channel from PBS to NBC unless they MEAN it. A record amount of cats put down their copies of the New York Times to tune in during knockouts. That’s impressive.
3. She called the coaches on their B.S.
Taylor may be everyone’s BFF, but she’ll still call you on your B.S. She had no issues correcting Blake on the meaning of “memento,” or responding to Adam’s assertion that he’s part cyborg with, “It sounds like a conversation for, maybe, never.” She gave as good as she got, and showed she has a wicked sense of humor and a healthy amount of wit.
4. The contestant reactions to Taylor were, quite frankly, hilarious.
Whether it be tripping, blushing, or announcing they were going to pee their pants (I’m looking at you, Ryan Sill!), reactions to T-Swift were consistently delightful. Although T-Swift may be gone, those authentic (and sweetly embarrassing) moments will live on in GIF form forever, so we can experience them over and over and over again.
5. She may be quirky and adorkable, but her expertise demands respect.
Do you think T-Swift’s Grammys were for being quirky and adorkable? Hell no. They were for being damn good at what she does.
From telling Taylor Phelan to stop using his guitar as a “teddy bear” to suggesting Allison Bray take her high heels off, T-Swift’s advice was game-changing for a lot of the artists during knockouts. She didn’t just show up and hit cruise control while getting free album promotion. She was excited to be involved in the coaching process and gave tangible, specific recommendations contestants could connect to and understand. While following T-Swift’s advice didn’t always guarantee a win, it certainly guaranteed a better performance (and a more level playing field).
T-Swift, we understand you have to go on tour. We get it. You do you, but you will be missed on The Voice. Come back soon. For the children. And by the children, I mean the cats.

What were your favorite T-Swift moments? Leave your thoughts in the comments, and I’ll see you back here after the next episode of The Voice.

5 reasons you love Taylor Swift ... even if you don't want to

(CNN) -- Taylor Swift has another hit on her hands? It must be Tuesday.
At midnight, the 24-year-old pop star released a new track cowritten with fun.'s Jack Antonoff called "Out of the Woods," and it's skyrocketed to No. 1.
It's the second release from her upcoming album, "1989," and like other Swift songs delves into personal territory.
"This song is about the fragility and breakable nature of some relationships," Swift explained to "Good Morning America" on Monday, probably prompting speculation as to which of her ex-boyfriends she could be writing about (early buzz points to One Direction's Harry Styles).
"This was a relationship where -- it was kind of (like) living day-to-day, wondering where it was going, if it was going anywhere, if it was going to end the next day," Swift recalled. "It was a relationship where you kind of never feel like you're standing on solid ground. That kind of feeling brings on excitement but also extreme anxiety, and kind of a frantic feeling of wondering. ... This song sounds exactly like that frantic feeling of anxiety and questioning."
We can actually hear Swift's critics rolling their eyes. But here's one of the best things about the star: Even when she's mocked for writing thinly veiled songs about her love life or criticized for going completely pop and not sticking to her country roots, Swift still follows her own path.
This is a woman who will tell her record label, when instructed not to venture too far off in a new direction, sorry, "but this is how it's going to be." She knows what she wants. She knows who she is. And if you don't like it, she'll just shake off the criticism and write a song about doing so that you secretly won't be able to stop singing.
That's pretty gutsy in an industry that's running scared. Here are five other reasons why you can't help but like Taylor Swift, even if you're not a fan:
1. The catch factor
Have you ever caught yourself singing a catchy ditty and not even remembering how you know the lyrics? It was probably a Taylor Swift track.
Her music has a way of permeating every facet of popular culture, to the point that you don't have to buy her albums to recognize the twang from "You Belong with Me" or sing the hook from "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."
2. Seven Grammys later, still more likely to be found baking with cats
Taylor Swift is one of the most recognizable pop stars on the planet, and we can only imagine the access that kind of fame can yield. We would not be at all surprised if the singer could jet from Milan to Tokyo in the blink of an eye in a private jet with seats lined in mink.
But instead of the usual shenanigans you hear about from the very young, privileged and wealthy, Swift is more likely to be found baking cookies or playing with a new kitten.
In other words, probably the exact same things she'd be doing if she weren't famous, which is a rare thing to witness.
3. She obsesses over the same TV shows
Speaking of those cats, one of them is named Olivia Benson, as in one of the starring detectives on "Law & Order: SVU." Another one of the star's feline friends is named after Meredith Grey on Shonda Rhimes' "Grey's Anatomy."
Many celebrities claim to be fans of their famous peers work, but Swift appears to be just as obsessed with your favorite TV shows as you are, almost as if she forgot that she, too, is on the A-list.
4. She's BFFs with everyone, including her fans
It's not hard to rattle off Taylor Swift's famous friends, because she has a growing collection that includes everyone from Selena Gomez and Lorde to actresses Jaime King and Lena Dunham.
But what makes Swift win over in the skeptics is her connection with her fans. She knows at least one of her supporters so well that she could make a surprise appearance at the fan's bachelorette party with complete ease, posing for pictures and handing over a gift that she knew her fan would like.
We'll say that again: She knows her fans well enough that she can buy them personalized presents. Who does that?
5. Her parties are as dorky as yours
While some stars are always sharing photos of their exclusive vacations in exotic faraway locales, Swift's get-togethers look like they could've been photographed in your neighbor's backyard. Fourth of July? She's baking a holiday-themed cake and hitting the Slip N' Slide. Christmas season? She's constructing homemade holiday cards with actress Hailee Steinfeld.
And of course, as endlessly chronicled on Twitter, you know Swift will always dance like no one's watching.

Taylor Swift Defends Pulling Her Music From Spotify

Taylor Swift does not want to be a part of your system, Spotify.
After it was revealed Monday that Swift’s entire catalog of music was pulled from the streaming service, Swift defended the decision Thursday.
“All I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment,” Swift said in an interview with Yahoo! Music. “And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.”
The decision may have paid off, as “1989” became her third consecutive album to cross 1 million sales in its first week, making her the first artist in history to achieve the feat. Addressing reports that initially projected her opening sales much lower, Swift said her goal was to make something people still wanted to pay for even in a shift economic landscape for the music industry.
“I hoped that I had created something that people would want to buy, but I didn’t know what’s been happening in people’s minds… I just was hoping and praying that people still perceived there to be a value to someone’s musical creation,” she said.

Taylor Swift takes over the world

(CNN) It didn't seem like Taylor Swift could get any bigger.
She's already had massive success in the music industry, millions of devoted fans and a permanent place in pop culture history, the latter thanks to an incident that the world will never, ever allow Kanye West to forget.
But clearly, that wasn't enough for the (literally) towering singer.
In one week she became the second-biggest selling act of 2014 and the only solo platinum-selling artist of the year -- all with the debut of her new album, "1989." She pulled her music off Spotify, the most popular streaming site in the world, and managed to get pulled into a political controversy thanks to a remark during the U.S. Senate race in Iowa.
You just couldn't get away from her. Morning shows? There was Swift performing on "Good Morning America." Prime time? Look, it's Swift on "The Voice." Online? Between her tweets, "1989"-related photos and a countdown clock, she was ubiquitous.
For all we know, she's even boosted the sales of tap shorts.
"Taylor Swift is basically the biggest musician in the world this week, and that means she's in the rare position of being able to do whatever she wants," wrote Jacob Kastrenakes of The Verge.
It's the next step in the evolution of the singer who launched her career in country music at the age of 16. Now 24, she has weathered critics who have kept a tally of just some of her alleged celebrity sins: her music wasn't country enough, her wide-eyed "Gosh I really won" awards acceptance speeches weren't genuine, and her relationships were mostly just fodder for publicity and potential song material.
Taylor Swift's '1989' has biggest sales week since 2002

So what does Swift do? She releases her first fully pop album, designates "Shake It Off" -- an ode to her haters -- as the first single and declares herself happily single.
"I really like my life right now," Swift recently told Rolling Stone. "I have friends around me all the time. I've started painting more. I've been working out a lot. I've started to really take pride in being strong. I love the album I made. I love that I moved to New York. So in terms of being happy, I've never been closer to that."
Protected by 'Swifties'
Swift gets that if this were high school she would be the annoying straight-A student who is gorgeous, friends with the other cool kids (Swift is BFFs with the likes of actress Selena Gomez and singer Lorde), volunteers after school and dates the cutest boys. But she's running for homecoming queen and is courting your vote -- hard.
Not that she doesn't already have plenty of admirers. Her fans, known as "Swifties," are equal parts adoring and protective of her. Come for Taylor Swift on Twitter and you are sure to encounter her army.
They are paying her back in part for being one of the most accessible music artists in the business. She does meet-and-greets, surprises them at their bridal showers, stalks their timelines and Instagram feeds and even made them part of her newest project.
Before the world ever heard a note from "1989," Swift handpicked fans who had really, really wanted to meet her and invited them to her different homes around the world for a listening party. They got hours to hang with their idol, taking Polaroids and delving into the new album. The fans were allowed to share their experiences, and asked only to keep details about the new songs under wraps.
5 reasons you love Taylor Swift... even if you don't want to
Swift told NPR that not only did they honor her request, but her fans stood guard when the album was leaked online two days before its October 27 release date.
"Anytime they'd see an illegal post of it, they'd comment, 'Why are you doing this? Why don't you respect the value of art?,' " Swift said. " 'Don't do this. We don't believe in this. This is illegal. This isn't fair. This isn't right.' And it was wild seeing that happen."

She needs that support in face of New Yorkers disliking the fact that she's been named "Global Welcome Ambassador for Tourism" of the Big Apple. The choice of the Reading, Pennsylvania, native to represent New York has been less than popular, despite her move to Tribeca and her new single "Welcome to New York."
"I'm incensed! It's insulting," Twisted Sister frontman and Queens, New York, native Dee Snider told the New York Daily News. "She doesn't have any life experience here, or connection to the town."
Taylor Swift: Dating is last thing on my mind
Center of controversy
It's not just New York. Swift also became part of the debate in Iowa during the waning days of the 2014 campaign.
Tom Harkin, the state's retiring U.S. senator, entangled Swift in a bit of political negativity when he invoked her name while discussing Republican Joni Ernst, who was vying for his seat.
"Well I (got to) thinking about that. I don't care if she's as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she's wrong for the state of Iowa," Harkin said. He later apologized and said, "I shouldn't have said those things," but Ernst made some hay from the comment and won election on Tuesday.
Swift has also ended up as part of the debate about Internet music streaming.
On Monday she pulled her catalog from Spotify, leaving their 40 million users bereft of her five albums to date. Spotify quickly courted her return with a playlist filled with songs like "Taylor" by Jack Johnson and "You're Amazing" by Epic Connection.
"We hope she'll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone," Spotify said in a statement on Monday. "We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want."

Swift told Yahoo Music that the decision was her own.
"I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment," she said. "And I'm not wiling to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music."
Never underestimate Taylor Swift. Right now, she's standing very tall.

Why Taylor Swift is everything to the music industry
